made the argument that what Fordham said was all about inflation and no doubt that could have been all he meant but, he could just have easily been referring to changes in the nature and delivery of services and that does not even get to funding and regulatory changes.

To the second part of your question if I tried to address all the changes we could probably get a book out of them. One change is the subsidization of costs by state governments. Another change is the myriad of additional rules and regulations that have exponentially increased overhead. A third is the demands for services by student to remain competive in the marketplace. We could go on and on but, as I am sure you would agree nothing comes for free. That, in my opinion, is what makes a simple comparison between two metrics a gross oversimplication at best. It ignores far too many variables to provide a real comparison of the relative value/cost propositions of an education now versus in earlier times. Again, I no way contend the rise over the years is without problems but, neither is it solely a grab that has far outstripped inflation without explanation.
