I probably already have most of the tools I'd need (I work in construction and am also a bit of a shade tree auto mechanic), but I really haven't tinkered much with bikes so I'll have to learn some basics. I did learn a little bit about how the shift mechanisms work today because before my ride I realized the shift cable for the derailleur had seized within the nylon sheath, so I had to take that apart and free it up. I haven't done a good job of maintaining/lubricating this bike over the ~12 years I've owned it, so it needs some TLC. I should probably dismantle most of it and clean/lubricate the parts and replace anything that is spent. I'll just add that to my massive to-do list...

I'll take your advice and look into the fit of my bike. I don't really have weight to lose at this point (I'd like to gain some mass, ideally) so I'm going to need to look at the setup and the seat. Thanks for the feedback!
