The story I heard was they tried to write a script

with Ermy as a consultant. He said they were doing it wrong. To show them the right way a DI chews butt, he just freestyled yelling at people. The plan was to record it, pick the best stuff, and put that in the script.

But even with the dialogue already written, no actor was able to pull off a convincing DI, so Ermy did it himself.
