A friend came home from work one day and his wife (and mother in law, who

was visiting) met him at the door and (in heavy NYC accent) said "I don't care how much it costs! We have GOT to get air conditioning!"

Note, this is in/around Rochester, NY and it's not uncommon for some houses to not have A/C.

Scott notices that, yes, the house is pretty hot. Hotter than it should be. He decides to go and check the utility area in the basement and the furnace was (he was exaggerating for humorous impact) glowing red as it had been running so hard.

He goes back upstairs, and sure enough, the temp control on the heat (which was set at about 55 for the summer) had been turned up to maximum.

Neither wife nor mom in law changed it...but their 2 year old daughter HAD been play mopping/sweeping the floor and they figured she bumped it with that handle and slid the control to maximum.
