That definitely doesn't sound right.


Compressor motor might be something special, but I wouldn't think a fan motor would be anything more than a simple half-horse motor.

It's not quite the same thing, but I had to replace the blower motor in my HVAC a few years go. Found a replacement at a local shop for $68. Even at a place like Grainger, it was maybe $75-125.

Not sure I see how the fan motor for the outdoor unit would be any different. But rumor has it I've been wrong before.
