It was a grey market German car with a NC title, but whoever worked at the NC DMV left one digit off of the VIN. I eventually had to go to a FHP office, and have them certify the VIN. The FHP patrolman was great! I eventually got everything required to send back to NC to get them to issue a corrected title. Once I had that, was a piece of cake to get the FL title and registration.

And yes, I have a very low opinion of the North Carolina DMV. How the heck to you omit a character off of the title? Today the NC DMV computer system would probably reject the entry, but why didn't they check their entry? It was probably because they were thinking about slipping back into the breakroom to finish off the last of the donuts.
