I don’t believe the responses to the surveys immediately get dismissed and
put in File 13. If you remember several years ago people were complaining about folks throwing footballs and encroaching driving lanes in the parking lots during the football game tailgatesand you know what happened there. Also, they’ve apparently listened to or read complaints about traffic management when leaving Lot 1 after basketball games, since they have taken steps to make that a little more efficient.
With regard to begin charging admission fees for the Olympic sports other than baseball, I don’t believe this issue has been cited as a “want” by many fans in any surveys.
In summary, I believe they have a very real interest with regard to fan experiences at the revenue sports games. For all others, they currently do not have a way of knowing who actually attends those games since there are no tickets or other identifiable method to track them. You have suggested charging admission and if you are a member of the Hokie Club (e.g. minimum donation of $100 level or higher), you would be issued an identification card that allows you free admission to the games, and you could be tracked and sent a survey.
Your career job gave you an acute introspective view of how people react to inquiries and their responses. You also feel like there is a lack of transparency by university officials, and particularly with the athletics operations and the Hokie Club. The answers you seek are similar to what most of us want to know, but either don’t have the time to get involved, or the balls to ask sensitive questions of officials and expect/receive a reasonably truthful response.
