At VT there are only four revenue sports......
Football
Men’s basketball
Women’s basketball
Baseball
So, all the others are supported by donations, student fees, conference revenues and football revenues. Only football and men’s basketball turn “profits”. I’m pretty sure baseball doesn’t because U Va loses over $2 million a year according to their NCAA report....we don’t come close to their attendance levels, and only our ACC games have admission fees. The baseball table and suite fees add to this, but I believe the total received from those items are less than $100k in the aggregate.
As for the soccer, golf, softball, track and field, wrestling, and lacrosse programs, I’m fairly certain those sports don’t have near the contributions to offset the personnel costs, let alone other costs such as travel, associated with the programs. If you look at the final Drive for 25 Blitz reports you can get a rough idea of the contributions made for the specific sports. Those amounts aren’t all inclusive be cause folks make other specific sports donations during the other times of the year.
VT doesn’t break out on its NCAA reports the individual sports income and expense details except for football and the two basketball programs. So, I’ve not seen individual financial reports or budgets on those sports. I’m sure we could file a request for those individual reports and budgets to be provided or made public if we wanted to push the matter.
