I'm always amazed by how difficult it is to get to the majors in baseball.


I did radio for VT games for WUVT, so I saw a LOT of games and knew some of the players reasonably well. I remember seeing some guys who, to my untrained eye, had MLB written all over them. I'd track their career in the Hokie Huddler, and/or look to see if I recognized any names going up against the Rochester Red Wings, and maybe I'd get out to the game if I recognized a VT player on the other team.

There were VT players that I thought were sure to make it to MLB....who never got out of Double A. Guys who hit .350 or higher in college, but then you check out their stats in A ball and they're hitting .215. Getting to "The Show" is TOUGH.
