And a reminder these are private political clubs picking their candidates..

this is NOT a US governmental function despite the fact that the parties have managed to arrogate public property and taxes for their purposes.

They are choosing who they want to put on the ballot, how they do it is up to them, Smoke-filled rooms? Perfectly fine. (although in theory they would still need to petition to be put on the ballot in every state)
