It will last on surfaces, but my basic possibly incorrect understanding

is this:

If someone expels droplets near a surface, 100% of the droplets don't end up on the surface. So I then touch it, but 100% of what ended up on the surface doesn't end up on my hand. I then touch my face, but 100% of what I picked up doesn't end up getting into my mouth, eyes, or nose. So the potency of those original droplets goes down with every transfer, and as time progresses, the potency of those original droplets on the surface gets weaker and weaker. While it may last on steel for three days, what's there on the third day is a lot less prone to get someone sick than what's there on the first day. Meanwhile, if I'm near someone who is sick and shedding virus within a 6 foot radius of me, then I'm potentially breathing in a lot more of it because it's going direct from sicko to me. Hence, I'm more likely to catch the Rona. Doesn't mean I can't get it from surfaces, just that it's far more likely I got it directly from someone that was sick (symptomatic or asymptomatic).

Conclusion: if everyone would just wear something over their mouth and nose, wash their hands regularly, and we don't rub elbows, we could probably get the world moving again. There would still be new cases, but it would drop off steeply. However, all it takes is one person that refuses to play by the rules, and it all goes to heck.

Disclaimer: I am by no means a doctor, so do not live your life based on my assessment.
