Because how you respond may also have an impact on how she develops and thinks of the world.

I don’t know the impacts of kids with her past and I don’t know 12 year old girl minds (not yet anyway since mine are young).

I can only speak to general human tendencies. And she appears to be reaching out to you as a known anchor within her crazy rehab, Covid, home removed, abandoned, and naturally hormonal life. You are a safe space that she might be trying to get back to as her reality sets in.

Assuming that my speculation is true, if you push her away it could affect her ability to trust in the future. But you obviously have to look out for your family first. And at 12, she is not likely to respond to a logical type response.

What stands out is the way you describe it with her talking about behaving. That is just doing what others want so that you don’t get in trouble. If you do talk to her, maybe appeal to her independent side. What she needs is not to behave to make others happy. She needs to learn control over her own life and emotions and actions. She needs support and assistance. But that’s just my view and honestly I’d recommend talking to a professional about this to help guide your response. Beat of luck to all of you.
