I have a Netgear "extender"that works well for upstairs of my house.

It has a WPS connection so is easy to connect and works well. I'm sure an ethernet connection would be faster, etc but the extender is simple.
Your router has to allow WPS (may have to log on to router software to be sure the WPS switch is "on"....simple to do) and you have to get the extender very close to the router to connect but then is a simple matter of plugging it in where you need it and connecting your device (computer) to the network (your network with -EXT added to name) by entering the password. Directions enclosed with the extender are good and easy to follow.
