There used to be a really neat website called "Lost Highways of VA"

Had a number of photographs of conceptual VDOT alignments, roads under construction, when certain legs were completed, towns and geographical impact, historical significance of the route, etc. It centered mainly on the interstate system but had US highways and state highways as well. Looks like it's not around anymore.

Maybe you can find it as an archive somewhere?
