That's a good question. I'm assuming they can't get another COVID vaccine


and still be a part of the study. I saw some discussion today about the possibility of that; i.e. is the vaccine turning out to be so good that it would be unethical to withhold it from the folks that received a placebo. I've heard of things like that happening for other medical treatments; i.e. the treatment/drug works so well it would be unethical to not give it to more sick people (likewise, they could end it early if it turned out to be really bad too). Participants should be able to get what ever other care they need if they develop other conditions too.
