Floods occur when inflow is greater than outflow.


Not at all familiar with SML, so this is just a general comment. But in a heavy rainstorm, would there be smaller creeks feeding SML, etc that reach flood stage because of high flow? Or because the outflow over the dam is less than the sum of all the creeks feeding the lake? This may change over time as there's more development, leading to faster runoff from the paved surfaces compared to earth.
