You should just claim it was lost, and they should issue a refund or...

I ordered something from New Egg that went into a NJ warehouse, and never came out. Actually it probably went into one of their employee's trunks. It took them about two weeks to finally admit it was lost in shipping and issue a refund. That's why I order electronics and computer parts from Amazon. If something is lost, they will immediately issue a refund or reship the item again.

I think your postal worker removed the item, and will have it gift wrapped for one of her family members this Christmas...lol
