In this case, Consular Agents are like Independent Contactors. We didn't

accrue leave or have access to any benefits other than health coverage. This was just two straight pay periods. They just forgot to uncheck whatever box it was that triggered my direct deposit every two weeks even after I told them when they paid the first one in error. Not a huge deal I guess. I need to get the taxes filed for the refund but also because we are considering petitioning for my mother-in-law's permanent residency and I'll need to submit my last three tax returns. If I have to go back to 2017, The first return will show less than 25k in income which could fudge things up. Things are pretty tight right now and the new job I've accepted is not much of a step up from my tread water job as a collector of ambulance bills, so believe me, I would love for them to tell me I can keep the cash. I also know it isn't mine too keep so I'm leaving it alone in the bank for the time being. The job market is a cluster right now so I'm essentially taking an entry level position hoping I can slowly work my way up the ladder at some point or find something better down the road. Need to try and stick it out a while though. Don't want the resume to show two short term jobs in a row unless there was an offer on the table I couldn't refuse.
