Since all I flown have been fighter/attack aircraft........................

we use AOA (Angle of Attack) on final approach, which takes into account our weight and our flap setting. We do compute a final approach airspeed based on weight, eg. for the F-4E it was 145 knots + 2 knots for every 1000 # of fuel over 1000#. Now do that in your head as you come off the pearch onto final...... just fly the AOA! It gets you down safely every time!
