Advice for wandering elderly? (inside)

Friend has elderly parents 5 states over. The mom is having memory issues and starting to wander and leave the house. The other night she left at 2AM and her husband had no clue.

Possible options?
1) Double locks?
2) Security system to chime on door opening?
3) Child door knob locks?
4) Invisible fence? :)
Other options?
