i "get it". My parents were not about to go to assisted living. We were getting close to a time when it had to be done, but they both passed away withing 5 weeks of one another.

Those are terrible decisions to have to make. The only thing your friend can do is what they think is in the best interest of their parents. Then they have to be comfortable in the knowledge that they are doing what they feel is best and acting out of love for their parents...That is about all you can do.
