They made it my decision. I tried to keep them home with sitters (they wanted to be at home), but that is not as easy as it sounds. During days of bad weather, the sitter couldn't make to the home. If the sitter can't make it, who? If falls back onto the sibling(s).

After my mom passed, I moved Dad to an assisted living facility. I am glad I did. It is a really nice place, and they are there to take care of him 24/7. He is fed, bathed and groomed. Is it perfect? No, but it is much better than managing him at home.

When I reflect on my parents during their cognitive years, they would not want this for me. I wish they would have moved to a retirement facility that had independent living along with assisted living.

There is one other point I would make to Ffx. The father is the caretaker and that is a BIG burden on him. The mother may decline to a point where he can not reasonably take care of her.
