Anyone know anything about Pawley's Island, SC?

We are starting to look at potential retirement areas in SC and that popped up on a search. Since we are staying in Charleston it is about a 90-minute day trip ... if it isn't a candidate I would prefer not to make that trip. :) TIA.

Other candidates so far are Beaufort/Dataw Island/St. Helena Island, Summerville, and Seabrook Island. Don't really see Charleston as an option due to increasing cost of living and traffic but I do love to visit there.
