My job has been stressful lately.
I've been working 12+ hour days for several weeks just to be able to stay afloat and not get more behind. The construction project we are working on has been in constant change due to a client that didn't know what he wanted going into the project and who apparently wasnt able to extrapolate a two-dimensional drawing into what the finished space would actually look like. I get that, and it's hardly the first time I've been down this road. But I really thought we had turned a corner and were heading towards the finish line.
Then today during our weekly owner meeting, the client asked us to relocate a transformer and three electrical panels that have been in place for at least one, and possibly two, previous owner meetings. The electrical contractor had just ordered the conductors and received them on site yesterday, so even though we're moving these panels closer to the switchgear, there will be no credit for the shorter feeds. Instead, we're looking at a substantial additional cost to relocate the panels and re-work the conduit from the switchgear. At least none of the branch circuitry had been installed yet. But I'm still anticipating pushback on the cost.
On top of that, the client told us this morning that one week from today, both the mayor of Richmond AND the governor will be visiting the site for a tour due to this company's designation as a COVID-essential business (I'm assuming this means they received grant money and the big wigs want to come see what the tax money is paying for). So now, during one of the most critical phases of the project when we are getting inspections and trying to make up for lost time due to the constant scope changes, I've been told that I have to chase all of our subcontractors away from the project for a day so the politicians can come do their PR visit. It's a really frustrating situation to have to accept.
Thanks for humoring my b*tch-session. I think my glue sniffing habit is going to have to continue until at least next week.
