The felony stop may have been a mistake according to AG Herring. He said

that the law was changed last summer. The felony stop was due to the excessive (in question) time it took the Army officer to pull over. I am familiar with that stretch of road and he had ample time and place to pull over prior to where he did (not saying the driver did wrong).

I don't know for fact that the police didn't know anything about the driver but they came up from behind the man's vehicle and the vehicle had tinted glass. Maybe the cops circled around the vehicle first. But logic tells me that the cops didn't know.

Here's what bothers me. How can police do their job when a defendant is afraid to get out of the car? If it's a rogue cop, he can shoot the driver while they're in the vehicle. But the cops need to control the environment stringently in a felony situation.

I'm not excusing racism or bullying by the police, but drivers etc. just need to let the officers do their thing. That can prevent a lot of problems. Every situation needs to looked at individually and not be lumped into the racist category just because an Afro-American is involved. I'm sure many other A-A involved situations are handled as well as they could.
