You know, you're allowed to enjoy coaching AND get paid for it.

It's a disservice to a large majority of these coaches to say they only do it for the money. Most truly good coaches do it because of what being a head coach is. Roy is getting out of coaching because he doesn't like what it's become. You don't mentor most of these kids anymore, it's become a professional job with an ever changing roster for big time collegiate athletics. He realized that and left. If he wanted to, Roy could probably stay for another decade and make another $40M

For the OP (and any others) saying he should just go coach at Furman or Wofford if he loves coaching...really? He's 70. Why would he start over, trying to rebuild a program at his age? He has a family that he'd like to spend time with. Nothing wrong with that. I hope by the time I'm that age, I can ditch my job too, regardless of my pay, particularly if it morphs into something I haven't really done for the past 30 years.

As for the money? Until he won his third national championship, Roy wasn't paid nearly as much as his contemporaries. Buzz was paid as much as Roy was in 2017, but Roy had a $1M bonus for his teams alright performance that year. Contractually, he was paid $2.1M and in 2010, he only made about 20% more than Seth. He made a 'Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech' salary. If you are about to tell me Frank only did it for the money, I will whole-heartedly call you full of shit.
