In most places I think docs are required to call animal control.


Friend here in Goochland County was recently attacked by 2 dogs. She went to the emergency room in adjacent Henrico County. Doctor there said he was required to contact Goochland Animal Control.

When the friend got home she got a call from animal control. They told her the dogs' owners had been contacted and that the dogs would be put in quarantine for 2 weeks. Because the dogs' paperwork and vaccines were up to date they were allowed to be quarantined by the owners.

Owners were very obviously upset and immediately agreed to pay all medical bills and buy my friend new clothes. Dogs were apparently fairly elite hunters that are flown all over for hunting trips. They had never attacked anyone before so the owners were stumped.
