I feel like Boomers and X'ers failed badly in the message they/we gave kids


We preached for two full generations go to college go to college go to college go to college.

Well, from the 50's through maybe the 80's, having a college degree genuinely did set you apart from the crowd. A degree, in absolutely anything, was a valuable thing.

Right up until everyone had one. And that started happening sometime in the 90's. At least that's when I remember first knowing people who borrowed a lot of money to go to school and study things that made me scratch my head.

By making college accessible to all, we've grossly decreased it's value. Sure, specific degrees are still very valuable, but simply being college educated by itself is almost worthless.
