sounds like he may have been getting away with stuff he probably shouldn't have been allowed to. The bar he was associated with was allegedly spiking drinks as reported by multiple people on multiple occasions. At least one person said he went to the police about it... strangely enough an investigation into it was opened up just this week after the killing and all these rumors started coming out.

The implication here being that the authorities may have turned a blind eye to this guy's behavior which allowed him to continue it which eventually led to what happened with Isi.

None of this excuses the murder whatsoever. It's sort of a separate but related tangent that could potentially reflect poorly on the Blacksburg government/authorities.

But again I will stress that this is all rumor right now. There's a ton of smoke there though and the timing of the police opening an investigation into the bar certainly seems suspect.
