on the minimum but, you are right that a lot of money is involved. Right now depending upon what sources you consult and the assumptions they have made regarding escalators ESPN is paying between $500MM and $600MM for the NY6 games that include the two semifinals and the the championship game for a total of seven games. The questions are how many games they pay for under the 8, 12 or 16 team models. Right now with the seven games they bought four are out of the playoff each year so it is difficult to use a straight per game calculation of between 85/86 MM per game but, that would be a minimum starting point. If they keep the 7 games they have now and add 2(playoff going to 8) or 4(playoff going to 12) the number goes up substantially. Some projections have the payout more than doubling and one projection speculated the max might approach 2 billion. I think that is overly optimistic, even more so if ESPN is in an exclusive bidding situation. Either way it is big money and compares very favorably on a combined basis to NFL and NBA contracts.
