JHam is playing a much more bend don't break style of defense


How many points did MTSU score on the 1st team defense "passing at will"? The answer is 7, because the defense philosphy is that the offense will make more mistakes then they will.

We did the very same thing against UNC, they got to the 40 yards line 5-6 times and came away with 10 points. Every time they got to the edge of FG range we dialed up pressure and played press man instead of the soft zone look. Against MTSU we played as vanilla as humanly possible and still held them to 7. That's something you can do when you have 3 legitimate all-conference level CBs who specialize in man coverage.

We were never truly at risk against MTSU, VT fans have serious PTSD from past games, the offense had their way with MTSU in the 2nd half to the point backups were in with 12 minutes left in the game.
