Similar experience here, but longer than 20 minutes

MIL and FIL went for an early walk in the beach and asked my 3yo son if he wanted to go. He said no, so they left. He changed his mind a few minutes later and tried to catch up. When he got to the beach, he couldn't tell if they went left or right, so he guessed (incorrectly).

They got back from their walk maybe 45 min later and after about 5 min someone realizes that everyone thought my son was with the other person. Now the frantic search begins.

Probably 30-40 minutes later we find him way down the beach kinda hanging out with another family. Once he realized he was lost, he found someone about his height and asked if they would take him to their mom... Because all mom's know what to do.
