OpenOffice and LibreOffice are open source, actually free-licensed software


you can go check the source and build it yourself, though others have done that work and made it easier depending on where your trust lies, to verify there isn't data being collected, etc. They are both operated by non-profit organizations.

You can trust a bunch of volunteers or you can pay and trust Microsoft.
