Even if they have their own governing body at some point in the future

they will still have to deal with having enough participating schools in sports like ice hockey, water polo, lacrosse, field hockey, women's bowling, skiing, soccer, etc. because they can't be sure the NCAA will allow schools to join this new association for those sports. Do you see the power conference schools agree to add a whole bunch of new sports at one time particularly when the sport may not be popular in their region of the country? If not, then what are the schools, who currently sponsor the sport, options especially if discontinuing the sport is not an option?

If the schools agree to sponsor some of these regional sports, then it likely will also require the school to either build a new facility for the sport or lease an existing facility that meets the requirements. For example, M/W water polo can't be played in the swimming and diving pool because the dimensions are different. Likewise, it is unlikely a lot of schools will be able to play M/W ice hockey in the basketball arena without completely gutting the basketball arena to reconfigure it for ice hockey too.
