All the good shooters I have ever played with exhibit

consistent shooting mechanics and high confidence. The form is not always pretty. Form varies from shooter to shooter and can vary greatly.

One of the best shooters I have ever played with had almost no arch in his shot. It seemed straight as an arrow, but they went in. His mechanics were consistent and he didn’t have to think about it, he just fired away.

When I was a volunteer youth league coach teaching kids shooting mechanics, I generally emphasized setting their feet, squaring shoulders to the basket, follow through, stuff like that. I didn’t mess with their form. If they wanted to release the ball from the chest or over their head I let them do what they were most comfortable with, which I think relates to their natural ability, what feels right for them.
