That was 2003. SEC feelers came later.


The rumors had the SEC interested in us along with A&M in 2010-2012. And that Beamer and company didn't want to jump ship so soon after joining the ACC. Plus, the coaching staff at that time was going into their golden years and wanted to spend their summers at their lake houses instead of recruiting.

I always thought if we went to the SEC, we would have turned into a consistent top 10-15 program. Why? Recruiting. We would have locked up the state in recruiting. We probably would have locked up North Carolina as well. And probably destroyed UVA football for eternity.

But now we can't even hold off Clemson, UNC, Ohio State and Penn State from coming in and taking the talent out of Virginia. We are now just an average program in the ACC.
