Don't be afraid to apply; even if you think you might not be qualified

I was in a similar situation about 5-6 years ago. The career choices I had made kind of lead me to a dead end. I talked with my manager and other leaders in my organization, and they tried to start giving me something different, but it was the organization's mission as a whole that didn't provide a lot of opportunities.

I applied for a position in another organization that I knew I didn't want, and wasn't totally qualified for. But, when they saw my resume, they tailored the position into something different, which fit other needs, and matched my skillset a bit better. Once I heard what the new position was, I was very excited about it. The new job and organization provided many more opportunities (I've changed positions twice since, both promotions) and I've been very happy.

You never know what can happen when you get your name/skills out there. Sometimes a job posting asks for the stars and the moon, but doesn't really need someone that has it all.

Go for it!
