7 wins in the George Welsh era and 7 wins now is quite different.


First and foremost, teams played much tougher schedules back then. I remember one year IIRC that UVa played Texas and Michigan on the road, and VT was still a non-conference game. Add the ACC full round robin schedule, and 7 wins is a legit accomplishment, especially in an 11-game schedule.

Today, teams play 3 cupcakes that should be automatic wins. Sometimes their only difficult OOC game is a neutral site game. And of course, wrt to the current era, the ACC and the Coastal are really down. And we often don't play the best team in the Atlantic in a given year.

WRT Fuente being fired. Yes we lost some close games. But the failure to show up (particularly on offense) against Pitt and BC was the end for him. He was brought here to fix the offense, and he failed to do so. And he lost the confidence of just about everyone. It was past time for him to go.
