What will we do then?

When you were 17 years old and your thoughts drifted to the “perfect” woman you would marry someday, I ‘m guessing you met one that you couldn’t even imagine. More on this later.

Most of these guys are retreads… that is to say, they are available because they didn’t Work out somewhere else.

As an example, some folks want Tom Herman, who didn’t work out at UT even though UT has more money than the Federal Reserve for athletics.

Why would he work out here with our intrinsic financial constraints?

Going back to that idealistic woman that was in your 17-year old mind, you most likely ended up with one that you couldn’t imagine because of the intangibles that you couldn’t imagine.

Executive summary:

You can write down all the requirements that you want, but at the end of the day, it’s the intangibles that are so very hard to articulate that’s going to make anything workout in human relations, which includes a HC.

And VT’s intangibles are much different than any other college.

Tuberville was a success at Auburn but not at Cincinnati.

I think JCP has the intangibles that are specific to VT… I, for one, would be willing to give him a 1-year, relatively low salary, as was done with Dabo and re-evaluate after that year.

But as I have said in a prior post, Whit is the only one that will make this hire and in his 2 previous hires, he went with the latest shiny object.

That concerns me, because, for Whit, he is thinking it might be 3 strikes and you’re out. 🤔
