college football coaching salaries are like placing bets.. except as the bets get better odds, the minimum goes up.
Whit bet on Fuente, and based on his time at Memphis and his first couple of years in Blacksburg, he doubled down to keep another school from pushing us off the table.
As it turns out it was a losing bet, but it's not like we paid Fuente $10million per year. We paid him a pretty average salary and pretty average buyout. He ended up being a pretty average coach.
we obviously want better so we moved on
