The frequencies of the new 5G can interfere with radio altimeters, which


are required for CATII/III approaches, which are low visibility approaches requiring the jet to autoland. CAT III approaches have no requirement to even see to land, with visibility down to 300ft/75m.

FCC/ATT/VZN promised to develop 5G without interference - didn’t happen - what will happen now is CAT II/III approaches will not be authorized at up to 100 US airports and certainly at most of all the largest busiest airports. So, get ready for potentially more diverts, also requirements to carry more fuel in some cases (costs passed to to pax, naturally) as lower weather forecasts may preclude some airports, with now required higher weather minimums, as being used as alternates etc. And of course, everyone will be sitting in airplanes, tapping away on their 5G networks, bitching about the airlines. 😏

I’m not skeered, unless I try to fly an approach that I’d no longer be authorized to fly.
