Getting ND to join the ACC is NOT the only concern.

1. Getting ND to join is a non-starter. Several years ago, yes. But it's clear to all that when ND worked with the SEC to expand the CFP that they were doing to to preserver their independence. Phillips knows this, but Staples apparently doesn't.

2. Phillips didn't make the ND deal and wasn't here when the ACC took this recent downward turn. He is trying to move the ACC and ACC football forward without ND and without blowing up the conference or college football.

Staples should know this; but for some reason, is not.
