Couple of false assumptions here


Heroin/opiate addicts can function for years as long as they get their drugs every day and don't overdose, get hep-c, etc. The breakdown starts when they no longer can afford their habit and have to commit crimes to get money. And lots of people recreationally use heroin without major life problems. Only a small percentage of people who try it become addicts.
