Started with VA 529 mutual funds. When the investments went . . .

higher to equal the value of the Prepaid Plan, I bought what is now eight semesters each for two kids. Just had one of the kids enroll in college. Filled out one simple online VA 529 form (intent letter) and the semester of funding was sent to the college. Note: Prepaid only gets applied to tuition and fees. Working out the numbers, the cost of tuition and fees ended up being $864 higher then what I paid for one semester. Couple that with the appreciation of the initial mutual funds and the tax break, I'm money way ahead. Looking back now that I'm actually using the VA 529 plan, I don't think I would have changed a thing. It's worked out very nicely. Hope this helps and good luck.
