That moment was two years ago, during/after Alexandria

TWD has repeated the same formula every season, whether it was Hershel's farm, or the Gov, or the cannibals, or Alexandria, or now Nagen:

Our heroes meet another group.
Conflict ensues, because the other group is evil in some way.
People die, including a main or secondary character.
Our heroes move on, perhaps learning a lesson, perhaps not.
They meet a new group, repeat.

I haven't seen much character development nor plot development in years. There is no hope, and no overall goal. That's why I stopped watching midway through two seasons ago. I recorded last night's ep to see who died, and if anything, the show seems to have become worse.
