Need a few good exercises that target the belly and won't hurt my back

I've dropped about 28 lbs through diet alone (I'm pretty active in general, but don't specifically work out for the sake of working out). I've dropped a lot of body fat (from all over) and visceral fat, but still have a little to go around the middle. I think if I could work in some ab exercises I can get right with the mirror a lot faster than otherwise.

In the "old days", I would do sit-ups, crunches, etc, but I've got a testy lower back so I need to be careful. What says you? What to do and how often?

This needs to be something I can do from home without any real workout equipment...
