The problem with that is the pipe is in the process of disintegrating.
It's going to keep sinking until the pipe has completely collapsed. Doing the job right means digging a 100 foot long, 3 foot wide, 4+ foot deep trench in his yard to dig up the pipe and then it has to be disposed of.
Hiring a backhoe to dig the trench is one thing, but lifting that monster out of the ground and hauling it away is another thing entirely. Pretty soon you're talking about real money.
