In my experience, not really.


Efficiencies haven't improved THAT much over the years.

Certainly, everyone's situation is a bit different, but I've never seen running the AC bump my electric bill by more than $150. And even that is only in the hottest month of the year. Most of the time it is less than a $100 bump.

So even if you splurge and get a 25% more efficient system, you are saving maybe $200 a year if you are lucky. The system you just installed might die before you get your money back in efficiency savings.

The average home loses a lot more money on their AC bill due to poor insulation than unit efficiency.
