Raises Hand. I'm 50+, and I didn't know (or care) until about 12 years--->


ago that a 2 x 4 WASN'T 2" x 4". My dad, on the few wood projects he did, called them 2 by 4s and I just shrugged and didn't care what they actually measured. Then, in my adult life, well, I'm the almost exact opposite of handy. If I do a project and it actually goes right the first time, I'm amazed. Even when I do all the steps seemingly right, something screws me up that's a 1,000 to 1 shot.

HOWEVER

When I first bought 2 by 4s in the store, I clearly NOTICED that they were smaller than that. I asked the person I was with, who knew better, and was told that's just what they're called, not the actual measurement. I thought that approach was REALLY DUMB....but didn't think "hey, Home Despot is trying to rip me off!!!! False Advertising!!!! Sue them!!!"
