A question

It is a fact that mass killings are having more and more casualties - and at least in this latest case it appears that higher technology weaponry (legal or not) had an impact on that.

But are they really getting worse on a societal level? or just proportionally bigger and more publicized based on all aspects of societal growth (population, technology, communication)? I mean if a mass shooting happened in a western town 150 years ago there wouldn't have been 22K people in one place, the weaponry much less advanced, the casualty count would have been lower and the east coast wouldn't have heard about it for weeks or months, but locally it would have been terrible and big news.

Doesn't make it any better for people involved and there is certainly "more" individual hurt - I feel for all those that lost loved ones.

Just my random musing of the day.
